About the event
Dr. Jerry Jackson will talk about his studies on our roadside canals. Believe it or not these canals are very active with wildlife. For the past decade he has been doing at least weekly (often daily!) surveys along a 2-mile stretch of Collier Canal ( bordering county road 951).He has also observed other canals in the area. It has been amazing watching how different heron and egret species, Mottled Ducks, Muscovy Ducks, Anhingas, Cormorants, Snail Kites, Limpkins, River Otters, and other creatures make use of our canals, factors that influence their use, and how the canals have become highways for the dispersal of exotic lizards and fishes.
