Brad Cornell, a policy director for Audubon Western Everglades, said his group, like many area conservation organizations, is very concerned about the project's proximity to the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge and the just-completed Picayune Strand restoration project involving more than 55,000 acres of "watershed restoration."
"We are opposed to this project, as it is proposed with what appears to be a large number of residential units that aren't even described or quantified, plus a car racing track and destruction of over 142 acres of wetlands," he said.
