About the event
Panthers, historically, roamed the entire southeastern United States. Development badly fractured their habitat. Hunting nearly eliminated them; genetic defects affected their health and survival. Eight female panthers were brought in from Texas in the 1990s and released in Florida to breed. It worked. Carol Rizkalla, Florida Panther Management Program Coordinator with FWC will tell us about the population now and the challenges they are facing along with things FWC is doing to manage and help maintain the population here in SW Florida with everything from wildlife corridors to working with landowners on some of the ranches.
Program series sponsored by Rebecca Krisko.
