Start out at Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk where it’s a notable natural landmark, a stand of virgin cypress in an otherwise cut-over cypress strand.

Tunnel into the heart of the swamp on this brief but beautiful boardwalk to experience a spectrum of green vegetation and the majestic cypresses that tower above. This is a great spot to find Pileated Woodpeckers, Gray Catbirds, Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, migrating warblers, wrens, and other songbirds.


  • TBD since there was a fire on boardwalk so if it's not repaired then trip leader will have alternative spot. After that head over to Kirby Storter boardwalk. This one-mile, round-trip Kirby Storter Boardwalk offers an excellent opportunity to explore a mature cypress strand without getting your feet wet.
